Someplace Else

Someplace Else is a durational walk for two performers in two very different places. Adrian Wood and Frans Van Lent take a walk in their respective cities - Chicago, IL and Rotterdam, the Netherlands – taking turns calling one another to report their surroundings. While one artist reports what they can see, hear and smell from standing still in their location, the other walks and listens. They trade off, creating a rhythm of phone calls that punctuate the durational two-hour sound walk performance.

The phone call is broadcast on internet livestream as well as terrestrial radio in the two locations. There are three ways to listen: via radio, internet livestream, or over loudspeakers placed in the two parks where each of the phone calls were based.

Someplace Else is a simple gesture of what is revealed through slow looking and listening. The artists’ reports tread a line between scientific observation and personal witnessing. The performance unfolds as a meditation on what is revealed to those who slow down to notice.
