DRIPPING, CREAKING, FLOWING
2019
Adam Boffa, "Recreating the Sounds of Antarctica," Hyperallergic. 22 Oct 2019.
dripping, creaking, flowing is a parafictional sound map of the McMurdo Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The map is a collaborative work with Antarctic hydrologist Grant Macdonald. It documents Grant's memory of a rapidly changing landscape through sounds recorded entirely in-studio. By using Foley techniques to imitate the sounds from Grant's memory, the project aims to point at the human-made quality of "natural" environments in the era of the Capitalocene, when all places have been touched by human economic and social systems.
dripping, creaking, flowing is supported by the University of Chicago Arts Science and Culture Collaboration Grant. Web design and coding by Will Hanes.
