Patchwork River (2015)
This series of prints, collages and paintings is in collaboration with the poetry of Katherine James. James’s work responds to memory of the landscape of Nelson County, VA, the place where she and I were raised. The poems deal with Nelson as it exists now and as it has been translated in personal and collective memory. In particular, the work responds to the recollections of Hurricane Camille, a natural disaster that devastated the County in 1969. Flash floods and mudslides killed 153 people, and many more were washed away, or left with nothing. The body of images I create in response to Katherine’s words navigate the landscape of memory and re-map my home terrain.
