who is this land for?


prairie grasses swirl around a dark center. the grases are light green and yellowish; the center is in shadows.

This land is not for us. This land is for the Sioux people, the Council of the Seven Fires, Oceti Sakowin, Yankton and Wahpeton. This land is for the people who have stewarded it for many generations.


This land is not for farmers, nor is it for white conservationists and artists and writers.


This land is for the creatures that inhabit it. All the species that live here, native and non-native.


This land is a process of cycling and recycling nutrients and water.


I have visited this land and I am going to leave it. People will remain here after I leave, but not the people whom this land is for.
